If there is one trait I cannot tolerate it’s arrogance! It skews self-perception and cuts off the ability to reflect on success in a balanced and constructive manner.
Arrogant leaders overestimate their achievements and engage in risky behaviour, compromising the teams wellbeing. It results in an inability for self-improvement and growth – which is so critical to achieving success. Plus people trying to out-boast each other works against productivity.
We’ve all heard that nine out of ten start-ups fail, and the main reason is they fail to meet consumer demand, arrogance and customer’s needs don’t gel.
Looking back over my 25 years, I’ve seen many great leaders manage exceptionally successful businesses and it’s the humble who attract admirers and build great cultures.
Arrogant leaders praise their abilities to the point they forget about their team, their peers and their products/services.
Arrogant leaders fear competition. They are bullies and they take credit for the experiences of others.
Arrogant leaders put themselves and their personal agendas ahead of organisational objectives and the common good.
Humble leaders teach others the best of what they know and they help others achieve.
The Economic Times list the 10 most arrogant leaders of all time. The list includes people like Adolf Hitler, Genghis Khan, Queen Mary, and yes, you guessed it - Donald Trump!
